When Chairish approached me to design a room around their new collection of area rugs, I was hesitant. It doesn't take much scrolling through the couture life to realize that I tend to avoid bold colors in favor for more muted monochromatic color schemes.
After some thought, I decided to embrace the challenge and step outside of my comfort zone and design a bold and eclectic living room space. Design after all is all about taking chances.
I have to say I am pretty smitten with the space. It perfectly blends moody navy tones, with vibrant turquoise and pops of pink. I think my favorite aspect of the room is that the accent color choices are endless, so in a year or two when you are over the pink swapping out pillows is an easy and affordable way to completely reinvent the space. Just because a room makes a statement doesn't mean it can't be anchored with timeless and traditional pieces.
Have you shopped on Chairish before? Their site offers a huge variety of both vintage and new items for your home, including a ton of options for fabulous rugs.

Recent Buys
I did something I never do this weekend, I went to the mall. I normally religiously shop online so stepping foot in a mall happens only a few times a year. The trip was pretty painless and I scored some great stuff for amazing prices so in the end it was worth it. Here is what I snagged...
I stocked up on work wear, since BR was having great sales.
Banana Republic: Ponte Zip-Waste Dress
Banana Republic: Tweed Sheath
I featured these pumps on Friday, and after checking them out in person they are perfect. Great heel hight, cushioned sole and classic. I will let everyone know how comfy they are after a full day to wear.
Banana Republic: Ninah Pump
A new tray for our bar area after I stole are other tray from the bar for the coffee table. I love the raffia tray because it adds great texture and help corral things.
West Elm: Raffia Tray
Have you ventured to the mall lately? What did you get that you can't live without.

Five on Friday
Happy Friday, it felt like a crazy long week over here and I am happy the weekend is finally here. Let's jump right into five of my favorites from this week...
1) The GiGi New York Winter Sale is currently underway and I cannot say enough how amazing their products are for yourself and/or your significant other. I have a few of their bags and love them and Matt uses their wallet and datebook. Now is the time to buy since the prices are so great!
Right now I have my eye on the Hayden Satchel in Cognac, I can't resist a bag that can be worn multiple way.

2) I am on the hunt for new black heels, I am not a huge shoe person and normally hate spending a ton of money on shoes. With a work meeting coming up next month I want to pick up another pair of classic black pumps, any recommendations? I am leaning towards the Ninah pump from Banana Republic .
3) I decided to reread the Happiness Project this year. I read it a few years ago and loved it, this year however I am reading one chapter a month, I read January at the end of December. I will start the February chapter the end of this month. By breaking the book down into bite sizes pieces it will allow me to really focus on one month at a time and making it easier to apply to life.
4) I pinned this recipe of spicy stove top macaroni and cheese during the week from Annie's Eats and I can't wait to make it on Sunday. I will report back next week how it turns out.
5) I am so looking forward to next week so I can fly to Seattle to visit the cutest baby in the world and spend time with family.
Have a great weekend!

Dreaming of a Farmhouse
A few weekends ago Matt and I were driving through rural Virginia and started talking about how awesome it would be to have lots of land. Fast forward two weeks later and I have designed our dream farm house from top to bottom. And in case you are wondering, Matt just thinks I am crazy and entertains me by talking through my plans.

Living Room
As you saw I am thinkings lots of white, texture, slate, rustic barn wood and subway tile.... swoon. I could scroll through these images all day. There are a lot of reasons why a farmhouse probably isn't in our future but if it was I would be ready.

{recipe} Breakfast Egg Muffins
I have been really trying to be better about meal planning for the week before doing my grocery shopping on Sunday's. My hope is that if I am more intentional about the things I buy we will save money and eat healthier throughout the week.
On Sunday's I have been making a dozen breakfast egg muffins for an easy grab and go breakfast. They are super easy to make, healthy and Matt and I both really like them. You can really make them with whatever you have on hand but right now we have been loving chicken sausage, peppers and onions.
Check out a detailed recipe over at beach babe fitness.

Five on Friday
one. I know it is already half way through winter but I have been dying for black boots and have had my eye on this pair from Michael Kors for awhile now. They recently went on sale and I am seriously considering pulling the trigger.
two. I truly believe a relationship always needs work and effort put into it to grow. Matt and I option find ourselves on the couch at night with he tv on and our iphones in our hands. Next time we are in the car or relaxing on the couch I want to try some of these questions out.
17 questions to ask your partner to deepen your connection
three. For the past two years, I would use my LV neverfull during the workweek and a Tory Burch Robinson Satchel on the weekends. It worked but was a pain living between purses. For christmas I asked this smaller purse to keep inside my LV with my essentials (keys, iphone, wallet, lip gloss etc.). Now I no longer switch between purses but just grab my small purse out of my larger bag and go.
four. I have been stepping up my fitness routine, but seriously feel like spending money on workout gear is a waste. I have heard wonderful things about Old Navy's active wear and plan on checking them out in person this week.
five. I am super excited to close out my first full week back at blogging after my year hiatus. Thanks to everyone who has followed along since the beginning!
Have a great weekend!

Beauty Favorites: Winter Edition
One of my favorite things about following other bloggers is hearing their experiences with products without having to go out and spend money on them myself only to find out they are a dud. On the flip side, even better discovering new products that I never would have known existed before.
For the most part I usually stick to tried and true products that I have been using for years, but recently I have been pushing myself to step outside of the box and mixing it up. I have found some great additions to my normal arsenal, that I just had to share.
Moroccan Oil Hairspray: The perfect light weight hair spray that doesn't leave your hair crunchy or weighed down. I am normally not a hairspray person but when I do reach for it this is what I will reach for from now on.
Murad Acne Spot Treatment: I bought this after loving the murad clarifying mask for those quick spot treatments when I didn't need a whole mask. It works fast to reduce blemishes, goes on clear and rubs right in so you can wear it under makeup.
Mary Kay Foundation Primer: I was suspect about this but after purchasing it at a Mary Kay party back in the fall I have been loving it ever since. For someone who normally can get greasy by the end of the day this really cuts down on the shine. It also leaves your skin feeling so silky smooth for layering on makeup and contains SPF so I am protected through out the day.
Essie All in One:Though I love a good salon manicure, I am also very good at doing my nails myself and try to save manicures for special occasions. After purchasing this base and top coat and using it for a few months now I feel like I can extend my at home polish so much longer. It dries fast, goes on smooth and leaves my nails shiny and chip free for up to two weeks.
L'Oreal Ever Pure Shampoo and Conditioner: If I was ranking products this would be my number 1 find of the year, possibly the past five years. I stumbled upon it by chance, basically biolage conditioner was out at my CVS and this was on sale and I figured it would carry me over until I could restock on biolage. Shampoos have a tendency to build up on my hair after a few months of use, this leaves my hair feelings soft, silky and super clean without drying it out. For someone who only washes her hair 3 times a week it is important that every wash counts and this does it job plus leave my hair smelling fabulous for days. Some shampoos/conditioners will also cause me to break out along my hair line, I am not sure if it is the ingredients in the product or like I mentioned above them building up on my scalp, but after a month of use my skin and hair look better than ever.
Peter Thomas Roth Max Complexion Correction Pads: I have been using these for about a year they are pricey but I swear they go along way and make a huge difference. I tanned way too much when I was younger and had noticeable sunspots, after applying these 1-2 times a week after the shower I have my sunspots have drastically diminished/disappeared.
ghd Classic 1 inch Straightener: This is the only product that isn't new to me but it is worth mentioning because I love it and it is worth its weight in gold. I bought this straightener in 2009 and it is still going strong. It leave my hair smooth and shiny without frying my ends. It also doubles as a curling iron since the barrel is rounded and ceramic. I swear by this brand so much now that once my cheap blow dryer dies I am splurging on the ghd dryer that has amazing reviews.
Okay now it is your turn, what are some of your favorite new to you products you have been loving lately?

Designer Spotlight - Kendall Simmons
Yesterday, I came across an exciting new designer who happens to be working with Natasha from Hello! Happiness on her home and I just had to share.
Kendall Simmons of Kendall Simmons Interiors is seriously talented as you can see by the amazing images below,. I cannot wait to see all the magic she creates in Natasha's home. Enjoy!
What is your favorite room and detail? I would have to say I personally love the mixture of modern design with rustic touches. I need to get my hands on a glass pedestal side table ASAP!

Ikea Finds with Designer Appeal: Curtains
It is amazing as we grow up how life comes full circle, case and point, Ikea.
When I moved into my first off campus apartment in college my ENTIRE bedroom was furnished from Ikea but as I "grew up" and graduated I swore when I had a place of my own it would only be filled with adult furniture. Then when Matt and I bought our condo, I stayed true to my feelings and held out from making an trips to Ikea.
Now, in our second home I am starting to shop smarter, which means more mixing high and low items to make a unique and balanced look. When I say I am shopping "smarter" it means I know when to splurge, when to look for a good bargain, when it is worth it to shop at higher end stores and when it is time to run off to Ikea.
Ikea has some amazing finds and even more amazing are the prices. So over the next few weeks I will be rounding up my favorite Ikea products that are silly buying anywhere else.
Now first lets chat about curtains....
Curtains can be extremely expense for one panel and I don't know anyway who only needs one panel. Now times that one panel by 2 to outfit one window and then times that number by the number of windows in a room.... and you get where I am going with this. To buy new curtains for an entire room/space can get CRAZY pricey fast.
That's where Ikea comes in, Ikea offers a great selection in 100% cotton or linen in a variety of styles. I personally prefer to stick with classic curtains that allow a room to evolve over time and don't limit you as styles change.
My favorite:
AINA ($49.99)
RITVA ($34.99)
Want to give your curtains a unique look? Add trim or ribbon to finish them off and make them custom to your room.
In our home I opted for the aina curtains through out, literally I used them in every room. The white linen looked perfect layered over woven shades to add texture and extra privacy. Since I saved so much on the curtains I did splurge on nicer curtain rods and hardware from west elm to really make a statement.
Have you used ikea curtains in your own home? I would love to hear how you styled them to make them your own!
